Watching an orchestra perform live is a very immersive experience: you get to feel the acoustics, the vibrations, the spatial perception and even the slight differences in timing. Digital streaming of the performance provides convenience, access, and portability, but loses part of those attributes.
Online representation conserves the most important information, melody, tempo, instrumentation but is deprived of the physical, emotional and spatial experience. This tradeoff enlightened me on the limitations and strengths of digital media. Digital images can be very effective in sharing and analysis, but they will never be a perfect alternative to natural experiences.
